Cast In Bronze Society Scholarship Terms, Conditions, and Requirements

Below are the requirements, terms, and conditions for the Cast in Bronze Society Scholarship. You can also download a copy here.

Application deadline for the CIBS Scholarship is June 1st 2022. Scholarship will be awarded mid August , 2022.

The 2022 scholarship requires:
• The candidate to enroll in the North American Carillon School (NACS) to study carillon and carillon related courses for one academic year (approximately 35 weeks) starting MidSeptember early October 2022, ending early June 2023.
• Carillon lessons to be schedule weekly in Springfield, IL, at the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon.
• Other required parallel courses to be taken online.
• A recipient to work towards either the NACS Proficiency Certificate examination or the Performance Diploma examination (depending on the entry level of the recipient) to be taken in June, 2023.

The scholarship covers:
1. Full tuition for all NACS required courses:
• Carillon performance (Carlo van Ulft)
• The Marketing and Promotion of the Carillon (Frank DellaPenna)
• Campanology and History off the Carillon (John Gouwens)
• Arranging for Carillon (Carlo van Ulft)

2. Expenses for:
• All required course books
• Software license for the latest version of the Finale Music Editing software.
• 9-month access fee to the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon

3. A housing or travel allowance to be made available based upon the recipient’s needs.
• The applicant is expected to either temporarily be located near the NACS in Springfield, IL or be willing to pay weekly visits to Springfield. In case of weekly travels applicant needs to prove to have access to a practice keyboard and preferably to a carillon.

Scholarship funds will be distributed to recipient per trimester based upon a positive progress report from the various instructors.

Scholarship Qualifications
• A candidate preferably has a proven medium to high level music performance skill in another musical field than carillon.
• A degree in music is preferable but not mandatory
• Applicants with previous carillon experience are eligible.
• Is at a minimum 18 years of age.
• Is available to spend September/October 2022 through June, 2023 to dedicate to the carillon study.

The application form can be found here and should be submitted electronically to CIBS with an accompanying video recording of the applicant’s musical skill. A committee consisting of Frank DellaPenna (President of the CIBS), Carlo van Ulft (Director of the NACS) and persons from the CIBS board will be selecting the recipient.

The CIBS reserves the right not to award this year’s scholarship.
